Linked: The Future of Remote Work is the Opposite of Lonely — www.mikemcbrideonline.com Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there scaring people into thinking that if they don't get back to the office, they'll have a very lonely life with no friends. After all, most adults make most of their friends in the workplace nowadays. I know I've made plenty myself. But, part of that is because we spend so much time in the office, and nowhere else, that we struggle to maintain any relationships outside of work. Who has time? Between our 9-10 work day, another hour commuting, and all the extra work we do at night and on weekends, what time are we going to spend with other people? It doesn't have to be that way though. Many of us can get our work done from elsewhere, and spend more time in a location that is more conducive to keeping in touch with our friends. That's the ultimate promise of remote work, and something that employees, and employers, should be considering when we think about what our office policies are going to look like.
Linked: How’d they do it without you? — www.mikemcbrideonline.com Seth's point here is one many workers would do well to remember: "It’s easy to use our indispensability as fuel. Fuel to speak up and contribute. That’s important. But it’s also possible for that same instinct to backfire, and for us to believe that if we don’t do it, it won’t get done right. That’s unlikely."

Linked: How GPT-3 and Artificial Intelligence Will Destroy the Internet — www.mikemcbrideonline.com This thing is, I think all that noise will end up taking us back somewhere we've been before, and maybe shouldn't have left, when a website with a blog wasn't "content" but represented the thoughts and opinions of real people, who you could get to know and interact with. After all, the best way to get authentic information is to get it from authentic people, right?
Yes, Hybrid Teams Can Collaborate — blog.kevineikenberry.com If you have a hybrid team it is time to let go of the past. You can have hybrid collaborate, too!
Employees failing to take holiday are risking their mental wellbeing | theHRD — www.thehrdirector.com Since the start of the pandemic staff have been accruing holiday, as many decided not to take time off when they couldn’t travel during lockdowns. While restrictions have eased and travel abroad is opening, many people are still put off travelling abroad because of the costs of tests and risks of quarantine rules changing at the last minute. This means many employees are postponing holiday leave again, which could be storing up problems for the future with employees suffering burnout and other mental health issues due to not taking any break.

Ransomware Gangs Are Mostly Just Following the Easy Money — www.mikemcbrideonline.com I saw a few references to this KELA study of ransomware based on doing some digging around the dark web to see what people were looking for. I wasn't necessarily surprised by what they found, because it seems relatively obvious, but I was a little surprised to see that it's pretty well-thought-out. I guess I had been working on an assumption that folks using ransomware were just throwing out a wide net and catching whatever they could, but it seems like maybe they are thinking a bit more about what they are doing.
