With a last name like McBride, you didn’t think I could let this day go by without comment, did you?

So, before we get to all the normal things you opened this issue to read, let me pass on this photo, which contains the most important information of the day. How to pull a pint of Guinness.

Careers and the Workplace

Enforced fun: Is it time to ditch team building?

I was quoted in this article by Lorraine Posthuma, talking about how unenjoyable large team-building events can be for introverts like myself, but also to theorize on how difficult they must be for neurodiverse employees, employees with care responsibilities and whether the women on your team feel safe.

How do you feel about forced team interactions?

Reviews Elsewhere - Foolproof: Why Misinformation Infects Our Minds and How to Build Immunity - A timely topic. It might be worth picking up a copy or gifting someone a copy. (It also reminded me of this from a few years back - On the Internet Who Knows What Is Real?)

Age Verification Mandates Would Undermine Anonymity Online - Soon enough, we will make online anonymity a thing of the past, much to the detriment of online discourse and the inclusion of at-risk voices.

Also, save this for the next time someone doesn’t understand the 1st Amendment online.

Mental Health in the Workplace

Calm Reminds Us That Diverse Teams Have Diverse Mental Health Needs

The point, however, is that when you look at the diversity on your team and consider how to implement solid mental health support systems, don't forget about the diversity. Don't assume they all need the same thing. They do not. There are some cultural differences, some unique challenges, and some ways to consider the diverse needs that some of them may have. It's worth keeping in mind.

Speaking of mental health, here is a quick reminder about my other Substack newsletter before we part ways for the weekend and whatever St. Patrick’s shenanigans you may have planned.
