Careers and the Workplace
6 in 10 Americans Would Quit Current Job for Remote Position - Nextgov — www.nextgov.com Work-life balance is increasingly important for today’s post-pandemic workforce.
Linked: How to Survive Constant Change at Work — www.mikemcbrideonline.com The interesting thing to think about is not just in regards to your own managers. This extends out to clients, partners, customers, etc. When they are allowed to constantly shift the goalposts and your response to your employees on the front lines of those relationships is "eh, you know how they are", consider the fact that you are not keeping them safe. It's not just an irritation, it's creating an environment that is not psychologically safe for them. It is doing harm. This gets old, and as the quote above says, it contributes to a loss of trust and cynicism. It might also lead to a ton of burnout too.
The True Cost of Bad Managers — blog.kevineikenberry.com What is the true cost of bad managers? It goes beyond the money and could be even more damaging than the wasted payroll.
When First Impressions Go Wrong - Not Recognizing Talent Development — www.mikemcbrideonline.com We all started somewhere. We all started in some entry-level jobs. We all learned and grew. Good workplaces develop their entry-level people, turning them into experts. It would be a shame to spend all that time developing people and then losing them because you never gave them the same respect they would immediately get by going somewhere else. Somewhere that never knew them when they were in an entry-level position. The people who worked to learn and build their knowledge and skills deserve better.
Security and Privacy
Google, Apple, and Microsoft Agree to Make Passwords a Thing of the Past – Review Geek — www.reviewgeek.com Passwords are a hassle, and unfortunately, they’re often a security risk. Even when a password is nice and complicated (they usually aren’t), it may be compromised through brute-force attacks, leaks, or malware. That’s why Apple, Google, and Microsoft are now collaborating on our passwordless future through the FIDO standard.

Training
The Job Seeker’s Market is a Learner’s Market | SAP Litmos Blog — www.litmos.com It's a learners’ market — learners have long seen training as a perk, so they’ll be shopping around for the best learning experience they can find. But what learners want and what you need to teach them aren’t always the same thing. How can L&D satisfy learners while meeting your organization’s training objectives?
Why Training Matters for Diversity — www.mikemcbrideonline.com Wouldn't it be a better choice to locate candidates with some of the skills you're going to need in a position and know that you have an environment that will help them grow and learn to become exactly what you need to be? Wouldn't that practice become a way to attract really smart people who want to grow and learn by coming to work for you? Doesn't that sound like a better option than simply leaving your open jobs unfilled and lamenting the fact that no one wants to work anymore? Unfortunately, there are too many organizations that simply won't consider this. They aren't interested in growing the people who work for them, they only want to hire people who can come in with no effort on the organization's part and do the work starting on day one. I think they are short-sighted.

Mental Health
Linked: How to Be a Mental Health Ally — www.mikemcbrideonline.com It's that first line that should grab your attention because so many people do not see mental health struggles as something that impacts them, or will impact them. But the numbers don't lie. Someone you know, probably even someone very close to you, is dealing with mental health struggles as you read this. Someone you work with is doing the same themselves or supporting someone else who is. How great would it be if we all recognized that and provided a safe place for them to talk about those struggles instead of not welcoming their voices and causing more harm? I don't think we can even imagine how helpful that would be because we see it so infrequently. It's time for that to change.
